Cyber Monday- If there is any day after Black Friday to venture out , and into the stores without the shopping mayhem…this is it! I presume most shoppers are plugging away at their computers to snag the best cyber deal of the day. I my dear glamour girls am combing the aisles for some “basic home necessities” (aka -moisturizer, toothpaste, nail polish remover etc…did you really think I was going to talk about my quest for the perfect floor cleaner?…Honey this is gotoglamourgirl.com…) but I digress…In my opinion there is no better place on earth than the neighborhood Target to pick up supplies. . So, here I am strolling through the aisles and I STOP dead in my tracks in aisle 9 and spot-satin elbow length evening gloves… (Hello!!!!-did I make a wrong turn? Is this Bloomies and I’m just a little discombobulated). Over I go to aisle 11 (handbags) and notice black and red satin evening clutches…O.K. it’s not Judith Leiber, but their priced at $11.99-$22.99…and Look Great…I then zip over to the dress aisle where I notice a black short evening dress with a feather hem. What is going on??? (Are the Desperate Housewives doing a shoot and they have mixed in wardrobe from the set onto the Target floor)? I then remember that we are still in this recession and think, “What if my  GTGG’s are holiday shopping and being the generous souls that they are  spend the majority of their cash on friends and family and co-workers and the doorman, mailman, and gardener,  with perhaps little left for some fabulous outfit for themselves …I CANNOT LET THIS HAPPEN!  To that end- I have done a little homework on the Target website and found a few items that just might make you look like a million without breaking the bank. THIS IS Go to Glamour Girl and I always do my best no matter what your budget- to look out for  gorgeous glamorous  you!

Wardrobe Staple: The Pencil Skirt.

Posted By: Terri
Category: Fashion Uncategorized Wardrobe basics

On Go to Glamour Girl.com of 7/22/09, I wrote about the pencil skirt. A true wardrobe staple that looks good on everyone! The key to looking great is always fit and here it is of utmost importance. Translation. this is one item if it’s too tight…it really shows !As I mentioned on 7/22 the pencil skirt is a pretty easy item to sum up…all you have to really remember are two very simple rules: Fit and length….

FIT: Make sure the pencil skirt fits in the waist and hip. If it’s too big get a tailor and have it altered. if it’s too small ABORT mission completely. Rule of thumb in purchasing clothes : Don’t buy items for the weight your going to be someday…buy clothes for the shape you are  today.

LENGTH: The best length for most every woman is at or just above the knee. Now if you’re under the age of 35 and have killer legs let your “profession” be your guide as to how short you want your pencil. Always check the rear view!

QUALITY: The rule of thumb for all wardrobe staples is to buy the best quality you can afford.

Black Market!

Posted By: Terri
Category: Fashion

I L.O.V.E. a Lux look for less and I have a feeling you do too! So in the spirit of “giving” I am here to tell you about a little gem called White House Black Market. Now I should probably come clean and admit that I have an absolutely gorgeous niece who works for the firm and they should really think about  taking her from the sales floor to the photo studio for their  next round of print  adds-but let me stay on point or at least try too for the sake of glamour and you!

When I visit a WHBM I always find more than one amazing piece of clothing, jewelry, or outwear. Their selection is beyond fashion forward, the clothing craftsmanship is superb, and the fit is HEAVEN, not to mention the prices. Take a deep breath. AFFORDABLE!! Very, very affordable. They are not sacrificing style or quality at a discount but instead offer  preferred customers  an extra 5% off every time you shop-all you have to do is sign up. Easy!! Every 2 months they send you a beautiful catalog filled with exquisite looks and a $25.00 coupon off $125.00 total purchase and $50.00 coupon off $200.00 total purchase. I don’t think it could get any better… but it does! Four or five times a year they have blowout sales in the store with an additional 20-40% off already reduced prices and if you really want the deal of the century run to any of the WHBM outlets. They are the absolute best. Filled with mark downs galore, a great selection and SERVICE….Now if that isn’t something to be thankful for I don’t know what is!!!!

Wardrobe Basic: The Winter Coat

Posted By: Terri
Category: Fashion Wardrobe basics

The Winter Coat is a wardrobe staple no matter where you live. If you reside in a warm climate-truest me you will need a heavier coat if it dips into the 50′s at night or you have the “pleasure” of traveling to a colder climate. All in all it’s always good to have a great winter coat at your fingertips. Please don’t resort to wearing your daughter’s ski parka or layering multiple sweaters, coats and scarves to keep you warm. There is nothing worse than seeing a gorgeous woman all dolled up for an evening out in the winter months and then topping off her gown with an  overstuffed down ski vest! Your worst offense won’t be in the form of the fashion police but the many sorry stares coming your way. SO here my dear glamour girls are a few tips to make sure that yes in fact you have the perfect winter coat at the ready.

•1.     If you only have one winter coat make it a classic wool trench  with  flannel backed  lining. Chic yet timeless.

•2.     The best length for any coat is at/or just above the knee. This length works with dresses, skirts, pants and leggings.

•3.      Fit is key. Check that the sleeves are long enough and that the coat doesn’t pull across the back. If it has a belt at the waist then it should hit at the waist (makes sense…right!) If it buttons or zips  in front  it should do so without any gaps.

•4.     Lining is important. The best winter coat lining comes with flannel backing for warmth.

•5.     Buy well …buy once! Only purchase a winter coat  in a color and cut that you LOVE!

P.S. When in doubt go for a single breasted coat instead of  double breasted..it is by far the most flattering cut of all….and never ..ever..ever.. buy a coat  that isn’t quit right just becasue it’s on sale..Save your cash for something you will want to wear for years to come. If however  you do happen to  find the perfect coat at 75 per cent off..BUY IT and know the fashion Gods are smiling  down on you!

The Look of Fashion Moguls????

Posted By: Terri

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen are fashion moguls. They run a large fashion empire, authored a book about fashion, and seem to be noted on numerous fashion lists (best dressed or otherwise). So I ask you: Looking at this picture and their choice of apparel would you take their advice on “What to Wear?”

P.S. I know Mary Poppins the Musical is touring but I am unaware as to the casting and perhaps Ashley wanted to be considered for the lead role…but it’s only a guess…Gotta go glamour girls. I suddenly have an urge to sweep my chimney……

Twilight.

Posted By: Terri
Category: Fashion Humor

The movie Twilight (New Moon) opens tonight and unless you’ve been on Mars or living under a rock you couldn’t possibly escape all the hoopla that has ensued. The three main characters have appeared on every visual medium available (i.e. Talk shows, TV Magazine shows, Late Night, Cable. etc.etc.etc.).  SO what has this got to do with fashion…? Just EVERYTHING! I don’t like to throw any woman under the proverbial fashion bus BUT, if you are appearing in probably the biggest blockbuster movie of the year, and your on camera in every major and cable network channel 24/7 and you have access to probably any designer on the planet to pick from one amazing collection after another I ask??? ” Kristin Stewart-(the female lead)- Would it kill you to muster up a little bit of effort and perhaps hire a hair and make up expert or maybe even a stylist to look presentable. Kristin, you showed up at the premiere of your movie in an Oscar de la Renta gown for God’s sake and from the looks  of every photo I have seen, make up and accessories were not on your radar.  As I scan more pictures at different events it seems to run true that you certainly take a very RELAXED attitude toward fashion. I am trying to be objective and think ..  there are some people that just can’t carry off a look…. BUT in all the photos I notice you have lovely skin, a nice figure, good hair…so what gives? The only explanation I can possibly consider is perhaps you are taking your movie title a tad to seriously and dedicate yourself to getting dressed in very, very little light. Perhaps even twilight????

Project Runway Finale…..finally!!!

Posted By: Terri
Category: Fashion

Project Runway will finally wrap up the long awaited Season 6 this Thursday November 19. I don’t know about you but I thought the season dragged on longer  than a pair of broken heeled stilettos.walking the Red Carpet at the Oscars.

Season 6 was moved to Los Angeles from New York. (If anyone is asking-bad move, very bad move! (I suggest you load a U-Haul with the Project Runway Set and floor-it until you see the Parsons School of Design back in NYC). The show seemed to lack the New York energy and vibe. The “addition” of celebrities to replace judges Nina Garcia and Michael Kors should have been nixed with the exception of Kerry Washington and Christina Agularia. Kerry and Christina were terrific with intelligent comments on the designs and suggestions for the designers. BUT Cindy Crawford seemed to hit the snooze alarm and appeared almost as a still life with nothing even remotely intelligent to add or offer. Thank goodness for our ever dependable Tim Gunn and lovable Heidi Klum (a model with a personality) to try to keep things moving…

SO here we are at the finale-Fashion Week at Bryant Park (which P.S. was now 3 seasons ago). No surprise that the final three are contestants Althea (very talented), “Mean Irina” (a girl with an attitude big enough to fill Bryant Park) and my personal favorite Carol Hannah. (she is a self taught designer with the tenacity, talent and professional  demeanor to make it in the design world! It’s been a stretch to reach the final episode but after all is said and done our Heidi will bid us “Alvederzane” until Season 7…we can only hope in moving the show back to New York-they can “Make it Work!”
