The Black Opaque..Slimming & Stylish

Posted By: Terri
Category: Fashion tips

Here’s a little style tip to consider when dressing for Winter and wanting to look stylish.  Winter dressing  usually means multiple layers which is anything but figure flattering but in an effort to keep warm and look as svelte as possible might I suggest pairing a dark pair of opaques with a dark heel and by dark I usually mean BLACK. Nothing is going to elongate the leg, and give the appearance of looking slimmer than the above mentioned pairing. Doesn’t matter if  you opt for a pair of low heals, a knee length or over the knee boot or even ankle booties this combo will not only keep you warm but you will look 10 pounds thinner and that’s without giving up your triple espresso foam on top latte. Happy pairing!

Tuesday Tip-Be Heeled.

O.K,.MAJOR disclaimer. I can’t take one ounce of credit for the following information but when I came across this article that touts determining heel height and COMFORT, I have to share it with you my wonderful readers ASAP. Bearing in mind that all things concerning fashion and style are of utmost importance, what could be more life changing than being able to determine if your high heel purchases are going to be comfortable prior to purchase!

Thanks to the peeps at She Finds.com I  share their 2 second trick to determine if your heels are going to be comfortable . I mean seriously….2 seconds. I’m in and so will you be after reading this: Enjoy!

Buying new heels is always dicey. Especially if you buy them online or can’t try them on in the store–you have no idea of knowing whether they’ll be the most comfortable shoes in the world or if they’ll be horribly painful and wreak havoc on your feet. Some shoes that you assume would be comfortable, like low heels or wedges, can turn out to be the worst culprits. You just never know! Or–that is, until right now when I’m going to drop the most amazing truth bomb on you: there is a way to tell if heels are uncomfortable just by looking at them. This 2-second trick is a game changer and every shoe lover should know it.

What is it? It’s all about the distance from the sole to the heel. The longer the distance (ideal: 3cm or greater), the more comfortable the shoe will be. As Glamour points out, this is because this distance dictates the pitch (read: incline) of the shoe. The shorter the distance (2.5 cm or less), the higher the pitch and the more weight that’s transferred to your toes. Ouch!

So, when buying new shoes in store, ask the salesperson for a tape measure and actually measure this distance. You will get an immediate read on whether they’re comfortable or not. (Don’t forget to ask if they run true to size, wear them around the store for as long as possible, and order your exact size).

If you’re ordering online and can’t psychically measure the shoe, what you can do is measure your computer screen and compare it to other heels on the same site. The heels with the longer distance from heel to sole will be more comfortable, and the heels with the shorter distance should be avoided.

Sweater weather is here! Bearing in mind that we have a multitude of sweater options available to keep us warm  the standard turtleneck  stands the test of time as a style staple. Turtlenecks can not only keep us warm but elevate an outfit to “uber  chic” in a matter of seconds. The key to  making sure that your turtleneck compliments your shape  is found in following these style rules:

  1. First and foremost: Wear a well fitted bra-preferably an underwire to give your shape proportion. The last  thing (and I do mean the very last thing you should do) is go without the proper undergarment. Don’t even think of going bra less. End of story.
  2. Fit is KEY. If your turtleneck skims your body make sure it is not pulling at the bust, shoulders or waist.

3.   If you opt for a more bulky turtleneck make sure you pair it with a slimmer fitting bottom. You don’t want to look bulky on top and bottom.

Sad but true-80% of women are wearing the wrong bra size. Whaaat? I know it seems unlikely that many of us are walking around wearing a bra that’s either too big or to small but facts are facts and the solution to this problem is sooo doable. Many department stores (Nordstrom / Macy’s/Bloomies/Saks and Neimans have some pretty knowledgeable associates in lingerie) not to mention the shops that specialize in beautiful lingerie (usually the best place to go)-all there and readily available to help you find the perfect fitting bra.

Truth be told a bra that gives you a lift (literally) both in shape and proportion can make you look younger and slimmer. A win win on all fronts…

Don’t you just LOVE animal prints?! Me too, guilty as charged! For my money there is nothing and I do mean nothing that really elevates your outfit up a style notch faster than  adding a pop of animal print to your outfit. Now I just want to mention before going any further that being the animal lover that I am …when it comes to any type of animal print faux is the ONLY way to go but  the good news is that faux looks fabulous. Here are a few style ideas to inspire and always remember that leopard is a neutral so  you can pair it with anything, denim, plaids, prints “other” neutrals-the animal print is truly a style staple.

Trending-The White Ankle Boot

Remember that old style rule that said: “No white after Labor Day.”Wellllll, it seems that the style savants didn’t get THAT memo and suddenly white ankle boots are everywhere for Fall 2017. Now just between you and I white boots are “O.K.” if you want to call some major attention to your feet or pant line but as a whole, if you aren’t one that’s been blessed with the thinnest thighs on the planet perhaps this trend might be one to delete from your Pinterest board. However, if you find yourself longing to wear this trend and you don’t have the thighs of a supermodel might I suggest flare leg pants and an attitude of utter confidence. At the end of the day I’m all about you being you and if you must wear white (even after Labor Day) why not check out these super affordable boots from Zara. They’re under $50.00 ($39.90 to be exact) have a very walkable kitten heel and won’t break the bank which is really a good thing because trends come and go and I have a feeling this trend won’t be on repeat.
