Suiting UP

Posted By: Terri

Suits for women have come a long way from the very basic (and maybe a little boring) navy or black, single breasted, 2 button down jacket with matching A- line skirt and a pair of pants. . Thank goodness! Suits for Spring 2019 seem to have a bit more edge and style and are much more flattering.

If you happen to be looking for a few quick and easy tips to UP your “Spring Suit Style” here are a few that should do the trick:

  • First and foremost FIT is key! Your suit should fit you to perfection. You can take a moderately priced suit and have it appear to be Couture with the right tailor.
  • If you’re opting for a color PINK IS BIG this season. Very Big. I’m featuring a soft pink from Veronica Beard in today’s blog but you can find suits in a wide array of colors and styles.

  • Heels. Yes, I said it heels. Please “elevate” your style and add a heel instead of flats. You don’t have to teeter on 5 inch stilettos but please promise me you’ll at least try. Heels give you a polished put together look and you’ll appear taller and thinner. (Your basic win-win)!
  • Accessories are the perfect finishing touch. Add a great handbag in addition to opting in and adding earrings/ a sleek statement necklace/ bracelet or ring. You don’t have to do all 4 jewelry options-but add one great piece and it will pull your whole look together and amp up your style another notch or 3!

Collars UP!

Posted By: Terri
Category: Fashion tips

I’ve been giving allot of thought to the neck lately (more specifically hiding the neck-as the skin is so delicate in this area and seems to show signs of aging sooner than other parts of the body).

Hence all the high collar details found in today’s post. If you’re looking to detract a little attention from your neck and don’t want to be wrapping scarves around this area on a daily basis why not consider taking your collar UP a notch or two. White collars aren’t a crime and they have a way of turning back time when raised up!

Bring on the Bling

Posted By: Terri
Category: Fashion tips

Happy Friday, Glamour Girl. There’s been something on my mind lately and it is style related hence- I feel compelled to share it with you. Am I alone on this one or do you agree that we all need a little bit of bling in your day? Lately, I’ve noticed a major gravitational pull toward the perusing of sparkly items. Glitter is always on my radar but as of this week it seems stronger than ever. I can’t quite explain it and yet I sit here pondering the following: could this unceasing penchant for sparkle be caused by: 1) the holidays being O.V.E.R. and longing for something festive 2.) the dark days of Winter with gloomy days abounding are starting to wear on us and we need a bit of sun SHINE in our day or 3.) we just like something sparkly and pretty? How about: All of the above! In keeping with my quest of putting a little bit of bling back in your day and not suggesting you go over the top and look like you’re ready to wear so much glitter that you could bring in an oncoming plane, might I recommend a major “on- trend” item that is spotted everywhere as of late..the rhinestone belt. Now this is NOT the rhinestone cowboy belt of days gone bye but instead a really chic and sleek belt that you can wear with, skirts, pants, everyday dresses and jeans. Yes, you heard me JEANS. In fact, jeans are my number one preference in putting a little bling back into your wardrobe rotation.

Jewelry Organization Tips and Tricks

Posted By: Terri
Category: Fashion tips

When one of your dearest friends on the planet tells you she has just dropped the contents of her jewelry box on the floor and is in need of some jewelry organization tips, one does not hesitate for even a nano second to oblige.

My friend Mary, is a major and I do mean MAJOR… Glamour Girl. She is a  classic beauty and surrounds herself with the most gorgeous pieces. (Read into that ….Mary has a very elevated taste level aka great taste)! When she mentioned that the jewelry box  had fallen on the floor I wanted to fly right out and bend down and pick up every bit of bling because when it comes to Mary, you just know every piece is Estate worthy and who doesn’t love an afternoon admiring some pretty substantial sparkly!

As time was of the essence, I wanted to respond and give Mary some easy  organizing tips that require a few simple steps:

There are basically two basic components of jewelry organization:

  1. Group like items together
  2. Make sure you can see EVERYTHING. (If you don’t see it you won’t use it or…. even remember you have it). i.e. Don’t even think of throwing everything in a drawer without any dividers because when it comes to jewelry we are talking major tangling and possibly damaging your beautiful bling (and that is so NOT happening on my watch).

If you have the drawer space I suggest:

A. Drawer organizers (available at The Container Store and Michael’s)

B. If you lack drawer space opt for displaying your items in pretty trays and decorative  items on  top of your dresser. (see above photo)

C. If you have oodles of wall space, might I suggest a decorative hanging of your most beautiful items for easy access and major display options.

P.S. Miss you Mary-Wish I was there to help organize your fabulous jewelry drawers.

Get to the POINT

Posted By: Terri

Here’s your style scoop for the day:

A pointed toe shoe elongates the leg, and aids in making you look taller and thinner (and I ask-who doesn’t want that)?! It doesn’t matter what the heel height is: 5 inch, kitten heel or flats-pointed toe is the way to go to look chic and sleek. You’re welcome.

They’re Baaack-The Belt Bag

Posted By: Terri
Category: Fashion tips

Back in the day (think around 1980)they were called “fanny packs.”  But today the same fashion item is baaack and has a much more elevated namesake-it’s called the belt bag. The new name is spot on in describing what it is-clever huh?! The  updated belt bag looks sleeker than the fanny pack of long ago and is super stylish.  Here are a few styling options to consider for the season ahead.

Styling option(s)

Wearing the belt bag at the waist

White Pant Rules

Category: Fashion tips

Just about every Glamour Girl knows that wearing head -to- toe basic black can make you “appear” slimmer and taller-hence the reason why we have oodles of black in our closets.

But ….it’s still summer and before we break out all that black for fall there’s still time to wear white- as in your basic white pant because not for noth’n they go with EVERYTHING! That’s the good news. The not so good news is that white pants can make you appear heavier IF you don’t abide by a few simple tried and true style rules:

Numero Uno! #1. Fit is KEY. Make sure your white pants fit you PERFECTLY. There should be no signs of pulling/stretching (aka thigh lines going horizontally) or gaping. Both issues only accentuate one’s figure flaws and I don’t think THAT’s the look that anyone is going for. Bear in mind that nobody and I do mean No BODY has a perfect figure so don’t be hard on yourself. Get a pair of white pants/jeans that fit you in the hips and thighs and if need be have the waist tailored to fit.

2.White has no filter! If you choose to wear white anything-it must be lined or made in a fabrication dense enough to not see -through. No one needs to see your pocket or pantie lines.

3.White can go from chic to shabby in a matter of seconds if you have a spot, splatter or sweat stains on your garment. Proper cleaning and maintenance is key when it comes to wearing white and looking right.

Drawer Detail….

Posted By: Terri
Category: Fashion tips

I was helping a friend organize her wardrobe today and after we finished the closet portion of the style reboot we went into the “dreaded drawers.” She alerted me ahead of time that they were an absolute disaster-translation “a mess” BUT that has never stopped me from going in and getting things in proper order. I love a challenge and in most cases all you need do is follow a few simple steps and your drawers can be delightfully organized and detailed in no time.

Here are a few quick tips to getting your drawer detail done pronto:

  1. Start by taking EVERYTHING out of your drawers-yes..I do mean everything.
  2. Once everything is out of the drawers- start sorting what you do and  don’t wear. *Rule of thumb- if the item doesn’t look good, doesn’t fit, is damaged or you’ve never worn it( tell tale tags still hanging) -it’s time to discard, donate or give to someone that you know might use it.
  3. Next -fold items neatly into categories: Jeans, Shorts, workout wear, tee shirts, sweaters ,scarves-(I think you get the picture) etc.
  4. Now that all items are folded and into categories, place back into your  drawers with items you use most toward the top of your dresser.
