Pencil You In!

The Perfect Pencil Skirt. Ann Taylor $110.00

The Perfect Pencil Skirt. Ann Taylor $110.00

Here we go! It’s almost the end of July and even though the temp today in SUNNY California is 101 degrees, I am finally ready (and I hope you are)- to talk Fall Fashion 2009-2010.

First up-The Pencil Skirt.

A fashion staple that will look good on EVEYBODY- promise! All you have to remember are two simple rules to make this fashion item look good and last forever:

Ready? Grab your pencil and take note:

Rule #1: Make sure your pencil skirt fits! Meaning: It should sit comfortably around the waist and glide past your hip to reach knee or just above knee length. Translation:- no pulling, gaping, bunching of fabric at the hip, derriere(bum/booty) whatever you want to call it … or any other area heading down to the knee.  If you need a larger size that will alleviate the gaposis problem then purchase skirt to fit your widest area and have the waist altered to fit you. There is this amazing resource called a TAILOR. A good tailor doesn’t cost a fortune and can alter the waist and length in no time flat.

Rule #2: Optimal skirt length on every woman is just above or at the knee. If it’s to long…..-H.E.M. it.

A good pencil skirt will last a lifetime.

Leopard Print in my Coffin!

Posted By: Terri

 christian-lououtin-suede-ankle-boots1

*Please note:  I want to clarify that I am speaking of Faux animal prints so PETA People-please relax….I am on your side!

I absolutely adore animal prints. Zebra, Cheetah, Leopard-LOVE THEM!!!. There is just something about the animal print that spells happy! So imagine my sheer delight when the  2009-2010 Fall fashion trends pick leopard as the standout print of the season!

Leopard  has been my  favorite animal print for as long as I can remember. I have often said that when my time comes “to go” to….( where ever it is  that you go- when your days are over) I am taking ALL my leopard print items and my Chanel belt, “just in case.” If I would place bets that there’s something resembling an “afterlife”-odds are definitely in my favor that the Leopard print and Chanel belt will still work their magic.  Think about it, Leopard looks good on and with everything. It’s versatile with a capital V as in “adding VaVoom to any outfit,(unless of course you love wearing Calico and then you aren’t terribly concerned with VaVoom). Leopard is sheer perfection  with basic black. It can make any outfit POP when paired with pink or red, or brown or beige or navy or …well you get the picture. You just know that when you add a leopard accessory i.e. belt, watch, purse, umbrella. .you will be noticed in the best of ways! Unless of course you are wearing more than one animal print at the same time..i.e. leopard with cheetah and zebra…Just promise me when you feel the need for faux animal anything -only one animal print at a time! I know it works in the jungle- but honey do you really want to be in the jungle -all dolled up in your animal print? I think not!

So there it is “The Print” of the Fall 2009-2010 season. Leopard!  Buy it, wear it, love it, save it.. I will be buried with it ..because I could just die for a really great leopard print.

Zuhair Murad aka My Latest Fashion Crush!

Zuhair Murad at Fashion Week!
Zuhair Murad at Fashion Week!

O.K. so I admit I have a very hunky husband! But I must confess I have a HUGE crush if only of the” fashionable kind” on Designer Zuhair Murad. Remember having crushes in Jr. High and you would write said crushes name in your notebook over and over again-well let me tell you Zuhair is not easy to write endlessly, but one look at his work and you my dear will be scribbling that very name at warp speed too!!

I first came across a Zuhair Murad creation on the darling and beautiful Julianne Hough see post (gotoglamourgirl.com April 8, 2009) then again on Beyonce, Miley Cyrus, Vanessa Williams, Kellie Pickler, and Carrie Underwood. Boy this guy gets around! But then again, I am suspecting he is going to be the new darling of the Red Carpet very, very soon. He is closing in on the Valentino’s, Oscar de le Renta’s, Ellie Saab’s and Carolina Herrera’s of the Red Carpet.

Mr. Zuhair Murad, is a Beirut based Lebanese fashion designer who opened his first Atelier in Beirut in 1995. He currently has boutiques in Beirut and Paris with lines including haute couture (the very pricey “one of a kind creations” mostly worn by celebrities and coveted by their stylists), ready to wear (p.s. a line of prom gowns for Fall 09), accessories and eyewear.  His creations are known for their sensational colors, extraordinary fabrics, and flattering fit on the female form. Many fashion reviewers state that Mr. Zuhair Murad’s creations are reminiscent of Egyptian Princesses, (if that’s the case -the first one in line to grab their charcoal liquid liner wins). Sorry about that last comment-I sound like a silly school girl with a crush…

All I can say is Mr. Murad- I’m in Love!

Ovation/Citation of the week….

Kate Hudson-Sexy done Right! Ovation!

Poor Pam Anderson-Sexy-I think NOT!-CItation!
Poor Pam Anderson-Sexy-I think NOT!-CItation!

Just a quick note to Poor Pam Anderson.…

Dear Pam,

It has come to my attention, that the economy is in a recession and from the looks of your recent photo it seems to have taken a terrible toll on your closet.  Poor dear, you can barely afford  bottoms to cover your behind and your tops –little of them that there are – look like that got caught in the spin cycle one too many times and shrunk down to a mere handkerchief.

I will commend you on staying in great shape but perhaps it would be advisable to finally free yourself of the Baywatch wardrobe you acquired 15 years ago and move on to something…how shall I say, more sophisticated, stylish and appropriately sized.

If you don’t have the means to purchase any new items may I suggest that you take 5 or-6 of your current tops and get them to a seamstress so she can sew them together and actually make one blouse that  buttons easily in the front without gapping and covers your belly button. Something that you could possibly tuck into a skirt that is longer than 6 inches or even-(and I know you probably aren’t aware of this clothing item)- some lovely tailored pants.

You can do it Pam-just hang in there! (opps -sorry those were the wrong words for you because you my dear Pamela- have been hanging (out) for far too long.

Just say “Goodbye to Baywatch!”

 Go forth and  be covered.

The “Real Housewives”???

The Real??? Housewives

I would be totally remiss not to mention the fashions on Bravo’s A list Awards Show last night. Needless to say the Worst of the Worst would have to go to The Housewives (and I do mean all of them)!!!! The Reality Show Housewives (who all seem to be desperate for attention with a capital D!) include New York, Atlanta, and Orange County. One can only guess what the latest installment of the Housewives from New Jersey will bring-(did I just hear a Baddha Bing?)…That being said have a look at the fashion statement NeNe Leakes-(housewife from Atlanta) wore on stage to accept her award for “Cable TV’s guiltiest pleasure”-the only pleasure I saw was that of the children of Malawi seeing the possibility of being breast feed for a week.
I often wonder how they decide to cast these shows because I have yet to see a common thread except they seem to choose Housewives that are neither fashionable, classy and in most cases not even a housewife. Hello Bethany-no children, no husband, how are they defining Housewife? Maybe “housewife” just means you’re not homeless and have an actual roof over your head.

Mr. Valentino

Mr. Valentino

Let’s see it’s  been 2 months since Confessions of a Shopaholic came to the silver screen, a whole year since Sex and the City –The Movie, The Devil Loves Prada has been out on DVD and by now has probably ditched Prada and is  sporting Jason Wu!  Good News fashionistas- put on those 5 inch stilettos and run don’t walk to see the latest installment in fashion film pabulum  Valentino – The Last Emperor! It is open in limited release and it is fabulous with a capital F!!!!

This documentary shows a never before ( behind the scenes view) of how Mr. Valentino lives, works, creates and  copes with being one of the last couture designers of our time. It also depicts the extraordinary relationship between himself and his friend, business partner and lover of almost 50 years Giancarlo Giammetti.

This movie is visually beautiful not only because of where and how Mr. Valentino lives, but because the clothing he designs are one of a kind masterpieces that are so breathtakingly beautiful you will be on your feet and salivating for more…….Thank you Mr. Valentino!

In the Pink!

Posted By: Terri
Category: Uncategorized

There are so many trends for spring 2009. The number one color for the season is pink. I have never seen so many catalogs, fashion magazines, websites and store windows filed with this luscious color. Pink comes in so many shades, bubble gum pink, hot pink, soft pink, and the good news is that pink looks good on Everybody-well  almost everybody……….

I have had a love of this color for years. However, my appreciation of this pretty hue was almost derailed yesterday at the indoor pool where I do laps. There I was going back and forth in my efforts to have a swimmers body-(not a Michael Phelps body-I’m not that delusional) but just a bit more toned so clothing skims over your curves instead of clinging to the bumps in the road…but back to the derailment-I was  doing a lap turn and BAMB!-there it was -a NEON pink Speedo on a man  that had more hair on his body than the faux fur coat you just put into storage, and a mid section that had become a bit too familiar with Crumbs cupcakes! Please understand, I don’t think that everyone needs to walk around in supermodel shape-(even though it seems to be a requirement when you get off the plane in Los Angeles), I’m just asking for a bit of taste and decorum when getting dressed and parading around  a public pool where people can actually see you.  The man wearing said Speedo probably has a vision problem that he isn’t aware of YET!  Obviously, he couldn’t detect the brightness of the neon pink, and instead of purchasing an extra large pair of bikini trunks he purchased the extra small which resembled a very thin string of neon dental floss s.t.r.e.t.c.h.e.d. to the max and barely covering his bottom. Visually- it wasn’t pretty!

My mother always said that “good taste never goes out of style” but I wonder if Mr. Neon Pink Speedo took a second glance in the mirror before his neon light show parade around the pool. Goodness knows if he did- he would know he was exactly “in the pink.”

What is your skirt length at 8 A.M.?

Posted By: Terri
Category: Fashion

Well there it was in broad daylight—and I use the term Broad in a very figurative sense. Going into Yoga—yes it’s L.A. and that is what we do at 8 A.M. when the rest of the country i.e. the Midwest and East coast are well into their day and have dipped their dunkin donuts or assorted sundry bagel and smear into their 1st or 2nd cup of coffee, but I digress—so back to the street scene at 8 A.M. Looking me straight in the eye was a young girl (under 20—didn’t ask for I.D. but morning light is very telling) wearing a mini skirt—or maybe it was just a hand towel that she attached to her belt! We are talking a mere 10-inch piece of fabric hanging just below the waist and stiletto heels. Now I had to double check my “bitter meter” and make sure I wasn’t just having a moment of deep resentment because her legs had not one ounce of cellulite, but I thought no matter how young you are, it’s 8 A.M. I don’t care if you’re just ending a very long evening or starting a very early day shift—I meant morning…how short should one’s skirt length be at 8 A.M.?

Is it really good taste and style to show a full moon before high noon?
