As the New Year begins, many of us will experience a sudden urge to clean out clutter. (Sound familiar?) Many of us adopt a mindset of “out with the old and in with the new” and we’re all ready for a fresh start!  It’s time to dig deep into your closet and starting the process of  (dah dah dah)DECLUTTERING. I know that doesn’t sound like FUN, but it can be if you keep your eye on the prize on how happy you will be with a well organized space.

To help you get started, I am reposting an article I authored a few months ago to help motivate you and guide you along in the process. In addition I’ve posted my THREE  favorite  items to help you get your closet get in tip top shape.

A well organized closet not only brings you calm and clarity, but quite frankly  YOUR CLOSET  should be  a respite where you can stand back and delight in all the items that make you feel good about yourself. If your closet doesn’t do all these things then… ..perhaps we need a mini redo to get you to feel better about your closet space.  Here are a few of my top 5 tips to get you started…

First and foremost only keep items in your closet that make you feel FABULOUS. Anything that doesn’t fit, is ripped, torn or stained has got to go in addition to any items that you just don’t wear. You’ll thank me when you discard these items and make room for new items that add a dose of happy to your wardrobe.

Every closet is easier to navigate when items are hung light to dark within each category. Nuff said.

Divide and Conquer Closet drawers become a mecca of calm when your items are folded neatly and have dividers or separate compartments.

Short on space -Roll your items for additional  storage.

Shoe LOVE-Shoes are easy to navigate by style and heel height when positioned front to back next to each other.

Sweater Storage: It’s always better to fold a sweater BUT if you just don’t have the closet space they can be folded OVER a felt covered hanger so they don’t stretch out. (see below)

My top three essentials to keep your closet organized:

# 1

Velvet covered hangers are  the KEY to happiness. I highly recommend using all one type of hanger for closet solidarity. My number one  preference for a neat and tidy closet -would be velvet covered hangers. You can also use wood or plastic but to insure that items don’t stretch velvet covered is best.

#2

Acrylic  Shelf Dividers are a huge help in keeping purses, sweaters and jeans in order.

*I’ve attached a link to the image below -Amazon has a wide selection at various price points to choose from.

If you’re short on space for shoe storage might I HIGHLY suggest taking a photo of each pair of shoes and posting them on the front of your shoe box or step up your storage game and put your pumps into clear shoe boxes. You’ll thank me in the morning when you’re looking for that perfect pair and don’t have to open numerous boxes to find what you’re looking for….
