Embrace the Cape

Posted By: Terri
Category: Fashion

Its THAT time of year again, when the outdoor temps start to dip but you’re just not quite ready to commit to wearing a full on winter coat. Enter..the Cape. The comfy and oh so style worthy cape is a mainstay in fashion and each and every season you have a plethora of styles to choose from at various price points.

I often get asked by clients how to style a cape and to that I say- there are options galore but when it comes to a cape “less is more” because quite frankly the cape is a statement piece, all on it’s own.

Here are a few suggestions to keep your cape style worthy and add a perfect pop to your outfit:

  1. If you’re opting for a plaid cape or one with a pattern ,keep the rest of your outfit in solid shades that compliment. The Cape will cover enough of your frame that you don’t want to detract from the fashion statement you’re making.
  2. If your cape is in a solid hue consider adding some amazing accessories to amp up the style and accentuate the cape. You can add an amazing brooch, stylish booties and one item with some sort of pattern i.e. blouse, pants, or even footwear. But keep the pattern play at one item  so you won’t  detract from the style statement of your cape.

The Terrific Trench

A stylish trench is a Classic wardrobe staple. It’s the layering piece every woman needs. The trench coat can elevate your look and can be worn…rain or shine.

Style Tips:

First and foremost invest in a trench that fits you to a T. The trench shape should fit your fame and flatter your figure. Pay special attention to the length. Think: not to long, not to short…. Just right!

A trench coat is best when lined. It allows the fabric to drape better over your body.

Details of your trench matter. Check button quality and buttonholes to insure stitching is secure. Also take note of even top stitching and secure belt loops. Lastly, the belt- does it slide through the belt loops with ease and is it long enough?

Buy well…. Buy Once! . The trench is a style staple that can be in your wardrobe rotation for years to come. Purchase the best quality trench that you can afford. If it’s going to hang in your closet for years to come it best be something that you love wearing with confidence and a “bit of happy.”

Faux to Go!

Posted By: Terri

I’m a HUGE lover of faux fur. Faux is so fun, looks fabulous and if you play your cards right looks just as good if not better than the really thing except nobody (and I do mean all animals) gets hurt which is the number 1 reason for going Faux in the first place.

If you happen to be a little bored with your “everyday winter coat” usually made from wool or cashmere   and are looking to jazz up the winter outwear section of your closet, how about going for a fun faux jacket or coat? Let’s face it after January the Winter does seem to linger and we have got to have something to keep the pep in our step during the cold and dreary months of February and March.

A good faux not only keeps you warm (faux fur is a very dense fabrication and insulates your body heat from escaping-hence keeping you warm ),but it comes in a bevy of style and color options. In addition, since we are heading into Spring in stores many faux coats are on SALE! Our favorite four letter word. Maybe it’s time for you to Go Faux.

I’m a Coat-a-holic

Posted By: Terri

The majority of my early years (Age 0-30) were spent in cold climates. I remember bracing the weather in Madison, Wisconsin, as I walked to my final exams in collage with temperatures    reporting in at 40 degrees BELOW zero with the windchill. Sooo, I understand COLD weather and have the frostbitten hands to prove it-quite frankly I don’t think they’ve ever recovered. During my formative freezing years I embraced the notion that even though the temps were dipping, my fashion savvy needn’t. Call me crazy, but I didn’t want to be so bundled up that I looked like a walking snowman or woman for that matter. I still wanted to be stylish in the snow. Enter… layers and my love for a really great and stylish winter coat.

I LOVE coats. A great wool or cashmere coat is key for staying warm and even though I now reside in LA where temts rarely dip under 30,I still have a closet full of coats in my closet and am always on the lookout for more. I’ve come to realize as I search winter coat sales that  I AM A COAT-A-HOLIC and can’t be cured-nor would I even want to be! If you like I LOVE a great coat then join the club and peruse the many FABU sales going on right now.

Here are a few silhouettes that look good on everyone, and are available at all price points in stores and on the web.

Blanket  aka wraps/coats cape scarf(s) are BIG and I do mean that literally. Take an over sized wool scarf and wrap it around your shoulders and whah-lah instant statement coat that keeps you warm when the weather is not exactly cold but you need some kind of cover to keep the chill to a minimum.  Here are a few examples to inspire-wear your over sized scarf belted or worn free flowing. No matter how you choose to pair or wear it -the look can make a statement for Fall.

Fall’s First Coat….

Posted By: Terri
Category: Fashion

Model Jacuelyn Jablanoski courtesy of ohmodelblogspot

I am a coat-a-holmic (if there were such a thing-which there isn’t –so I can keep my little “obsession” under the radar and continue my accumulation without an intervention). Being a coat-a-holic means that I love coats and I don’t discriminate whatsoever. If a coat has great style, fit and fabrication –wrap it up! My coat accumulation began while living in Chicago years ago. I now reside in Los Angeles where the temps rarely dip below 40 degrees… (Funny- how living in a warmer climate didn’t seem to diminish my desire for more coats).  My closet is filled to the tilt with an assortment of capes, faux furs, leathers, trenches(cotton, wool and satin)and cashmere.

With the arrival of fall, I send Glamour Girls wishes that you will find the perfect lightweight wool coat to put on as soon as the temps dip.

Don’t you just love the first fall coat of the season? Me too!
