Today is the official first day of Autumn/Fall and I for one could not be happier!

 

I L.O.V.E. Fall. The cooler temps accompanied by that crisp fall air and the beauty of the leaves changing colors. It’s a time of change and  a time for letting go…2020 has been a year of challenge . Here’s to letting go.

5 Things

I LOVE Fall. How about you? There’s just something so wonderful about the season. The cooler air, the changing leaves and PUMPKINS! I mean seriously, who doesn’t love pumpkins?

Living in LA, we don’t  experience the cool crisp days associated with Fall until sometime in November. (Cold weather climates..Pleeeeezzzz don’t hate me for stating this fact).

That being said, the month of October brings with it a number of lovely fall mementos that one should not ignore but instead partake in …no matter what the official temperature reading is outside.

Here’s the short list of 5 fabulous fall items to enjoy right this very minute….

Number ONE! Decorate with pumpkins..it’s the perfect prop for outdoor decor and transitions perfectly right into Thanksgiving.

Number TWO: Bake or buy some YUMMY pumpkin baked goods…

Healthy Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Muffins

INGREDIENTS
·         1/3 cup coconut oil, in liquid form
·         1/2 cup honey
·         2 eggs
·         1 cup mashed ripe banana, about 2–3 bananas
·         1 cup pure pumpkin puree
·         1/4 cup milk
·         2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
·         1 tsp. baking soda
·         1 tsp. vanilla extract
·         1/2 tsp. sea salt
·         1 3/4 cups white whole wheat flour
·         1/2 cup chocolate chips, semi-sweet or dark chocolate
INSTRUCTIONS
1.       Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
2.       Grease 12 cup muffin pan with non-stick cooking spray or if using liners, line with liners.
3.       In a large mixing bowl, whisk coconut oil and honey. Whisk in eggs.
4.       With a wooden spoon, mix in the mashed banana, pumpkin puree, milk, pumpkin pie spice, baking soda, vanilla extract, and salt.
5.       Add the flour and mix just until combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.
6.       Spoon the batter evenly into the prepared pan. You should be able to fill all 12 muffin cups.
7.       Bake for 5 minutes at 425 F degrees, then keeping the muffins in the oven, reduce the oven temperature to 350 F degrees, and bake for additional 17-20 or until toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
8.       Place the muffin pans on a cooling rack to cool. Store cooled muffins, covered, at room temperature for up to 3-4 days.

Number  Three: Take a walk outside and ENJOY the changing colors of the season.

Number Four: Wear a Turtleneck Sweater…Chic and so stylish!

Pair your classic turtleneck with anything and everything: pants,skirts, jeans…it’s a closet staple that looks good on everyone.

Fall(ing) into your weekend…aka things to do for FUN!

Fridayyyyy Yah!

Fall- is hands down one of my absolute favorite times of the year. As of late I’ve become much more mindful of  how taking small “mini breaks” from stress is not only needed but mandatory.  I want to share a few simple and easy ways to relax and take a break from your electronic devices, stress, work duties and weekend chores. Thy’re all extremely doable and at the end of the day you might just be a whole lot less less stressed and feel…rejuvenated which is the whole point of taking some downtime anyway. Come to think of it-I think that should rename downtime-up time-because taking a break can elevate not only your life but your mood. Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy!

  1. If you haven’t already do a closet flip for Fall. Now I know you may THINK this is a work related activity but alas nothing could be more calming,meditative and uplifting than getting out your Fall clothes and storing your Summer items.
  2. Sip your favorite Fall beverage-whatever you like that is warm and gives you comfort: Hot cocoa,pumpkin latte, or apple spiced anything.

    2 cups milk (dairy or non-dairy)
    2 tablespoons pumpkin puree
    1 to 3 tablespoons sugar, depending on how sweet you like it
    1 tablespoon vanilla extract
    1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice, plus more for serving
    1/2 cup strong hot coffee
    Whipped cream, for serving

    Directions

    Add milk, pumpkin puree, and sugar to a saucepan over medium heat. Heat until hot, but do not boil. Remove the saucepan from the heat and whisk in the vanilla, pumpkin pie spice, and the coffee.Divide the mixture between two mugs. Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice.

  3.  Get outdoors. Now to be clear I’m not saying you have to commit to a full on camp out to appreciate the colors of Fall but find a beautiful park,walkway or nature preserve and take a long walk enjoying the colors of the season, the crisp air and best of all the smell of freshly fallen leaves. Heaven.  

4.  Decorate your porch with pumpkins. I mean who doesn’t love PUMPKINS!

Fall’s First Footnote….

There’s just something about July….

I don’t know about you but as  July draws to a close I can’t help but feel a sense of Summer’s end drawing near. Now you may be thinking that I’m getting a little ahead of myself considering that the temps in Los Angeles for the last week and continuing for at least the next dew days are in the high 90’s. But there is always that ONE sure sign of Fall’s entrance just ahead. I seem to always find that first Fall footnote exactly where it should be-in the SHOE department. Yes, it seems that literally overnight one goes from eyeing the perfect summer sandal to a lux pair  of leather boots.  So TODAY it happened- right there smack dab in the middle of shopping I spotted Rachel Zoe’s 2014  FALL footwear collection. Once again-Fall is giving summer the boot! So what is the messege of this whole story-well actually it’s two fold.

1 Somehow the arrival of a new season always gives us something to look forward to.

2. Enjoy every moment of whatever season you are in right now.

There’s just something about October that I have always loved. I don’t know if it’s the changing of the leaves, the crispness in the air or the chance to FINALLY wear a coat ( you really didn’t think I would neglect saying something related to fashion now did you).
